Ryan + Christina: 06.15.2013 (St. Thomas More and The University Club – Summit Avenue Clubhouse)

Ryan and Christina’s wedding was a flurry of fun and rain – we loved having two hours on the 30 person party bus for pictures! (Total Luxury does a great job with their limos FYI). We had to switch gears right after the ceremony because the heavens opened right after we all piled in the limo but we found two great indoor-ish locations to capture some great images! Ryan and Christina you guys were so great for practicing your “dip” and just being up for whatever!

They black & white bridesmaids dresses were super classy – loved them! The Summit Ave. Clubhouse was decorated beautifully by Christina’s mom, Barb and a few of Christina’s friends (best the staff had ever seen!) and there was even a wedding dress on the front of the head table. There is a crazy picture of my head on Facebook and that is because the waiter dripped beef sauce on my head while server – yikes! I’m really excited about these images below at the Guthrie and in the loading dock area – enjoy them and have an AWESOME time in Paris you guys! -Judd and Josh

Josh + Alem: 06.17.2013 (Como Conservatory)

Back in the day I was a high school football coach and math teacher and Josh was a STANDOUT strong safety and math student that I had the pleasure to work with. He contacted me a few months ago that he had fallen in love with Alem and they were going to be married at Como Conservatory. I knew it would be fun to see him and and reconnect with the other football guys besides Josh: Justin, Jarred, and James – hey that’s a lot of J’s with Judd and Josh and Jaimie Studio crew too – weird…! 🙂

This was a quaint ceremony and the groomsmen were super agile climbing up on the railing in front of the conservatory. Josh had a picture of himself and Alem inside his coat and his vest matched Alem’s GORGEOUS African dress you see in the images. I absolutely love the images taken on the railing and in the reflection of the fountain. Thanks for having us as part of your day Josh and Alem! -Judd, Josh, and Jaimie

John + Carrie: 06.13.2013 (Aurora Staples Inn – Stillwater MN)

What a fun local wedding! John and Carrie took us back in time with their ceremony at the Aurora Staples Inn in Stillwater overlooking the St. Croix. They both wore historic garb that really completed the turn of the century look and feel. Carrie found her amazing dress at an antique shop, but it was missing some buttons that she had to have shipped last minute! We had some of the best Buttercream peach and strawberry cake and some awesome lemonade made by Luna Rossa which was perfect for a sunny day. We wish you the best John and Carrie, thanks for letting us share in your special day!

Amy Caroline Lyon

This is the first funeral I’ve been to of a dear friend that has been younger than me. It is humbling and truly makes me ponder Amy’s spiritual whereabouts. I was so honored to take some family pictures of the Lyon Family last summer and they are images I will always cherish. Amy endured a year-long battle with Cancer and it makes me wonder how and why Cancer is still a problem in our world – when is the cure coming???? Dave, what a beautiful worship service and eulogy today (you absolutely rocked it) and I’m just glad we could be, and continue to be a part of your life. I hope this slideshow offers for some solace, remembrance, celebration, and healing for your family. As I mentioned with the Philip Phillips tune Dave, I felt a spiritual presence in the choosing of this song — 3 times. Enjoy, my friend, and we shall see you soon. -Judd

Beautiful! If I could have half the beauty and joy that she did in her too short life, it would be amazing! My sympathy to her family for their loss.

The Loft at Studio J is almost a reality – please help!

The all new Loft at Studio J will soon be the newest and red-hot event center in Stillwater!  The latest plans include room to seat 200-250 and a capacity of about 450 using both levels.  It will be an amazing, handicapped-accessible second floor space is historic downtown Stillwater complete with a horseshoe shaped bar, Loft-style bathrooms, and a grand staircase with main street entry.

The price tag has risen to the point where we need to apply for a small business loan and that’s where you come in!  Our original goal was to raise $25,000, but now we need to raise $15,000 ASAP to close the loan and start construction in mid-June. Construction will last only 5-6 weeks with a projected opening date of August 1, 2013.  We will have a SWEET Grand Opening party! :):)  So please help us donate even if only $10 – all donors will be entered in a contest to win a free iPad!

Any donation over $100 will receive 50% back as a gift certificate to Studio J Photography and the highest donor (current leader is $1000) will receive a $2000 set of wall canvases and family portrait session.  There are other goodies as well like being able to scribe your name on a piece of the Loft for posterity – check out the Go Fund Me Page for details. 🙂

If you want to book an event at The Loft with a deposit before August 1, 2013, you will enjoy 25% off room rental and ALL services including photography and photo booths!

Thanks for helping! – The Studio J Family (Judd, Josh, Jen, Jaimie, and Emily)

Booking rates start at $350 for weekday and $600 for weekends.

Brian + Ashley: 05.18.2013 (Machine Shed: Lake Elmo, MN)

Brian and Ashley were married in Mexico a couple months ago and this was there stateside reception! Ashely worked as an amazing retoucher for us during our busy season last fall so it was fun to work with her as a bride. 🙂 The Machine Shed had some really cool “farm-like” backdrops we used for the variation on American Gothic image.  We also made a few of our own images out in the tick-infested brush – I love the walking one – it is very unique to what we do. Ashley lost her bustle but hey, it was worth the shot right? The cool shadow image was in the pool area… kids in their swimsuits were like “What in the heck is going on?”

The details they chose we very unique like the signing bench, umbrella name tags, cupcakes, bridal dress pockets, and wire balls.  Josh got a sweet ring shot on top of one of the centerpieces! It was weird freezing ourselves for like the last 8 months here in MN and then hearing myself tell the bridesmaids if they were hot to stand in the shade — I hadn’t said that since August 2012! What fun Brian and Ashley, thanks for having us a part of your reception celebration! -Judd and Josh

Zach Sobiech’s Story

Zach passed away this morning: May 20, 2013 – thanks for touching so many lives, Zach!

Below is his legacy:

Post from April 3, 2013
I had the pleasure of meeting Zach last Wednesday as he was filming his new video “Starhopping” on a rooftop here in downtown Stillwater with Jeff Dunn and Erik Mickelsen. He took the time to autograph some of our magic studio cups and talked to my family. What a humble and talented guy! Zach has had a long fight with bone cancer and is using his last weeks to extend his influence and footprint on this world through his music – have a listen and see if you don’t see life a little differently afterward!

Here is Zach’s Caring Bridge Site to learn more about his story.
