Nathan + Rachel: 11.22.2014 (The Loft at Studio J)

On one of their first dates, Nathan was racing his motocross bike and had a serious crash 3/4 of the way around the track. Rachel not only followed the ambulance to the hospital but managed to load up his crashed bike into his pickup BY HERSELF! It was when he woke up in the hospital and she was there that he knew she was a keeper!

It was so fun getting to know you guys and this was such a fun wedding — here are the Top 10 moments from Rachel and Nathan’s wedding day:
10. Rachel’s awesome red shawl she had during the creative photography time
9. Nathan sporting said red shawl crossing the street
8. Modified “Abbey Road” whole wedding party shot
7. Having to do the Abbey Road shot three times to get the spacing right. 🙂
6. Nathan’s amazing woodwork and custom logo design
5. Having four photographers shooting from all angles including two rockin interns (Ester and Jordan)
4. Me standing in two cigarette pots to “get the shot”
3. Having little kid pictures of Nathan and Rachel on the bathroom doors (great touch!)
2. Having their Photo Booth album have pictures of two different people on it!
1. Great Grandma sticking her tongue out at me during family time (see below)

It is so fun re-inventing ourselves as the in-house photographers for The Loft at Studio J. We try to take new images and locations every time we are here and the decor and locations make a difference. With this crew we went to Rafters and I couldn’t help but notice that the floor had the same “springiness” that the Old Loft used to have. Or maybe that was all the drinks that were going down fast?! 🙂 Thanks for allowing us to spend an amazing day with you two and enjoy the slideshow! -Judd, Eric, Jordan, and Ester

Dave + Renee: 11.15.2014 (The Loft at Studio J)

COZY… That is what described the feeling in The Loft at Studio J today. It was like you had walked into the inside of a snowglobe surrounded by all your family and friends and were ready for a 7 hour celebration, conversation, awesome dinner and party! Dave and Renee have so many cool friends and family – Renee’s mom made all the dresses for the women!

The custom woodwork was amazing, the first glance was spectacular, and we managed to get some really fun shots outside even though it was a bit chilly (the yellow umbrella!!). The shutterbug bridal party hung out at Brine’s and we spent some time in the Freighthouse alley and then the party was on! Thanks for sharing some really awesome puns with us Renee – it was so great spending the day with you two and see you soon! 🙂 -Judd and Josh

We are blown away by these shots and can’t wait to see the rest! It was a perfect day…snow included! The Loft was such an amazing place to hold our wedding and all of you were so great! Thank you for all of your help in making this a spectacular event! I’m sure this is a day people won’t soon forget and thank you for helping us make that happen.

David & Renee Anderson

P.S. Dave says not to encourage me with the puns because it will only make it worse! 🙂 Ha ha!

Nick + Holly: 10.18.2014 (The Loft at Studio J)

What an awesome late fall day for Nick and Holly!  So many cool details in their wedding including jello shots, name tag suckers, leaf thumbprint tree, doily spray painted pumpkins,  supercool cocktail napkins, custom pocket watches Nick picked out for his groomsmen, handmade bouquets (the frost got the ones they were growing!), and cake topper geodes (you never know what you’re going to get!).

It was also Nick’s idea to do this crazy image with all the groomsmen passed out and the bride still drinking (see below) – so creative!  We love shooting in our own venue, and we used some different lenses and angles to really make it a point to make today look different.  I also loved the from-the-heart speeches and the love in the room from a recent family passing.  It was so great to work with you guys and enjoy the images!!! – Judd and Josh

Joe + Lizzie: 10.04.2014 (The St. Paul Hotel)

So. Much. Joy.  I was outside in the lobby during Lizzie and Joe’s reception and overheard a conversation: “Joe is just such a great guy – I would do anything for him; and Lizzie is just the best – so full of energy and always happy all the time.”

This sentiment was echoed over and over during the speeches and essentially throughout the day from family and friends alike.  It is so much fun to “work” with people like Lizzie and Joe who simply and constantly exude fun, love, and compassion for others.  Joe was even ironing the shirts of his groomsmen! “These french cuffs really throw me.” haha.  The details were amazing with table decorations, super tall centerpieces, name tags / floating flowers, and Lizzie’s beadwork on her dress – although her veil liked the beadwork a little too much. 🙂  The groom’s “teddy bear in a bag” was slightly disturbing though. 🙂 My favorite part of the day was watching Lizzie tear up from listening to her sister Sara and brother-in-law David rehearsing for their special music. It is pretty amazing to watch the emotional power of professional opera singers!

After the ceremony we cruised with the wedding party to Como Park, and a cool abandoned warehouse after being denied at one of our secret locations by hurricane fencing!  So we shot two brand new locations in St. Paul which was really fun including drone video footage!!!  The video footage will be edited down and ready in 4-6 weeks but we wanted to release these fun images as soon as we could!  Thanks Joe and Lizzie for allowing us to capture all the love and fun from your amazing day! -Judd, Josh, Eric, and Erik

Perk’s Messfest!

For Bjorn’s 13th birthday, he and his buddies ran Perk’s MessFest which benefitted Micales for Mitch, and Bjorn’s cousin Garret!

What a blast they had conquering over 12 “slopstacles” including a foam castle and human burrito (yuck)! I had the pleasure of “running” 2 miles with my camera equipment and luckily spared myself from most of the oooooze…
Participants – email judd@studiojphoto.com for an invitation to Dropbox to download the images and video! -Judd

Josh + Ami: 09.06.2014 (Windows on Minnesota)

Whew… I think I have finally recovered from Josh and Ami’s wedding! Josh and I have photographed over 200 weddings so we kinda “know the drill” but we were both playing different roles than usual… Josh was the groom/backdrop builder/confetti canon builder and I was photographer/sound guy/parking specialist/sherpa. Josh and Ami packed every imaginable cool detail (i.e. Star Trek cuff links and Ami’s gloves!!) into an amazingly action packed day and it just seemed like time was marching too fast!! It was a whirlwind of smiles, dancing, partying, Japanese garden shooting, laughing and re-uniting with old friends and family. I was so tired I ordered room service. Twice. 🙂

Josh found this cool door in Minneapolis to shoot on and we just grabbed seemingly endless quick shots in the parking lot, and fields, and shoe shine chair – all happening without hesitation from a couple who knows how to pose and are totally in love, and find cool spots! Special thanks to Jaimie and Eric and Chad for grabbing great images and video as well – WHAT A FUN DAY! We are so excited the Schneiderkoosmanns are on an amazing globetrotting honeymoon to Italy, Greece, and France – and we will try to hold the studio down while you’re gone and see you soon!! -Judd, Jaimie, Eric, Chad, and Taylor
