Eric + Amber: 06.21.2014 (The Loft at Studio J)

WOW! Sparklers, fireworks, traffic stops, high water, jazz, green tea mints, candles, and awesome food – it seems like we had a little bit of everything for Amber and Eric’s wedding!

Amber had first emailed us a couple years ago about helping us with a photobooth for a fundraising event that Josh and I were shooting; but it turns out she was asking for Eric who has started his own photography business and wanted to help us out. Fast forward to the heart of the renovation of The Loft at Studio J and Eric was meticulously cleaning EVERY SINGLE one of the chandelier crystals – TWICE. The dude is amazing: pounding out square head nails, editing, retouching, basically doing everything he could to help us through the dust storm of our renovation!! You rock, man.

Amber is a beautiful bride (love the tats!) and I am so pumped that she is the first bride to get the 3-mirror shot in the bride’s room that has been in my head literally for 6 months – love it!! Josh (Eric’s son) had a little too much champagne on an empty stomach so that explains the picture of him sitting on the chair on the back patio. It was so fun shooting with you guys and we love the way you decorated The Loft for your wedding! -Judd, Josh, Taylor, and Dayna

Justin + Nikki: 06.14.2014 (Lakewood Memorial Chapel and Interlachen Country Club)

Sometimes things just work out… Justin and Nikki’s wedding day started out really rainy and we were all like “let’s make the best of this and see how it goes!” We started out a little behind schedule so the shooting turned into a flurry of activity and I’m pretty sure we shot as fast as we ever have! The wedding party were true reflections of Justin and Nikki’s personalities – very chill, classy, and fun-loving. There was tons of laughter as we dodged raindrops, caught a northern, took off shoes in a reflection pool, sang songs in the awesome acoustics of Lakewood Cemetery, took pics in the crypt!! and amazing spiral staircase built in 1910, juggled three colors of umbrellas, and got photobombed by a runner at Lake Harriet! It was fun tracing the steps of their first date at Tinfish as well as some of their favorite spots at Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun.

The toasts yielded more singing and funny props; the only disappointment was that Nikki and Justin didn’t do more yoga in the surreal reflection pool! Nikki holds a special place in the history of Studio J as our VERY FIRST portrait client outside of weddings. A couple years ago we got some epic yoga shots of her on Earth Day (still feel bad about weed wacking on Earth Day) – and these images are up in the studio today if you have seen her “floating” on her yoga mat doing some crazy pose that only double jointed people can imagine achieving!

It was such a pleasure shooting with you guys Saturday! Josh and I had a blast and grabbing these crazy cool images we got with you despite the weather and pace at which we had to shoot was simply amazing. Enjoy!!! -Judd and Josh

Derek + Michelle: 06.07.2014 (Minnesota Landscape Arboretum – Chaska)

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is an amazing place, but we found a new spot with Derek and Michelle – The Japanese Gardens! We had tons of great images already but walked past these gardens on the way to the reception and found this awesome little shack. With Steph’s incredible sherpa help and Josh’s athletic backlighting we captured some of my favorite images of the year! It also helped that there were so many good looking Oles around – Um Ya Ya! 🙂

Derek’s family is very special to us with two weddings, two funerals, and other portrait sessions — it is a real privilege to walk through life with them and capture the moments that are both high and low. Thanks for the referral Matt and Jenn! Derek and Michelle, the releasing of the butterflies was SUPER cool and meaningful!

Some of my other favorite images are the raindrops that slowed us near the beginning, the lush flora around the arboretum, the sharp greenery around the bridge, stepping over puddles, and Derek’s pose after the first dance. You guys are a TON of fun and it was such a pleasure shooting with you Saturday! Have fun in Mexico!!!! – Judd and Josh

St. Croix Crossing Construction Phasing

So there will be some construction as the new St. Croix Crossing bridge is completed near the fall of 2016! We are super excited for less traffic in downtown Stillwater, and below is a map of the proposed delays. Please add some extra time to make it down to The Loft and studio from highway 36. But better yet, come into town from the north (HWY 96) or the middle of town (HWY 12 / Myrtle). Progress!!!

Denise + Tony: 5.17.2014 (The Loft at Studio J – Stillwater, MN)

What a party! Tony and Denise are two of the funnest people to shoot. They are so relaxed, ready for anything and out to have a great time. We started the shooting day off in the most picturesque place within 50 feet of the studio…the alley! No seriously, there is a really pretty crab apple tree back there which is where they saw each other for the first time. The details were really great and homemade! Birch bark and flowers combined with cool lighting made the Loft look absolutely stunning. Way to go Denise and Tony and I am pretty sure a ton of the family helped out too!

The ceremony, which they practiced for right before, went off with only one hitch haha ;-)! After that it was off to Brine’s for a few drinks and to reminisce about their first date which led to this great day! We went out back for some surveillance footage of the groomsmen (please see pictures for clarification) and to be interrupted by a completely rude and oblivious cab driver who stopped traffic in the middle of our pictures, blocking up the parking lot behind Brine’s! Crazy!! After some more fun pics it was back to the Loft to party down and have a great dinner. Later the song “It’s raining men” came on to which all of Tony’s railroad friends came out of the woodwork to dance to.

I had a really fun time and was glad to be a part of Denise and Tony’s day. You guys are great and I hope you have fun reliving your day over and over! Thanks Denise and Tony!!!

-Josh
