Patrick + Heidi: 7.19.2014 (Lift Bridge Loft, The Loft at Studio J)

It is so great to see two people so excited about each other like Patrick and Heidi. I don’t think you could have found either of them with anything less than a giant smile on their faces all day. Heidi did her own hair and was helping with decorations at The Loft until it was time to start pictures. Patrick was across the street at The Bridge Loft getting ready with the guys and recovering after running over 10 miles in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Tough Mudder run earlier that morning…yeah he ran that far ON his wedding day 🙂 They saw each other behind the studio in the garden of Camrose Hill and Patrick got goosed by his bride before seeing her awesome dress! This was by far the largest wedding party we’ve ever had (15 on each side) and we marched down to the river in a huge group to get family and wedding pictures taken in front of the Stillwater Bridge.

The wedding went great and we got to share in the story of Heidi’s dad who sadly passed before the wedding. He was clearly there in spirit and a wonderful video created by two of Heidi and Patrick’s good friends highlighting his final days with the family and the struggle they experienced together put most of the guests in tears (myself included). Our hearts go out to you and your family Heidi and Patrick.

The night ended wonderfully with friends and family dancing and having a great time together, not to mention the break dance stylings of one very awesome little man,Oluwatosin Wald. Thanks Patrick and Heidi for a wonderful night and we hope you enjoy your images!! – Josh and Jaimie

Ivan + Anne: 07.18.2014 (Red Lodge Mountain, Montana) – 10 image iPhone wedding!

I was a guest to Ivan and Anne’s wedding Saturday, and after some brainstorming I asked Anne if I could shoot just 10 images to capture their wedding. I was planning on using just my iPhone 5, limit myself to 10 images, and post the images online as they happened. Anne said, sure!

The challenge was a little nerve-racking because I couldn’t see the focus very well on my phone and needed to plan a little differently. We were in such an awesome location in the mountains in Montana with a very chill couple – it was really invigorating. Melissa was the main photographer and I was sherpa/creative director and I nabbed these fun images from atop picturesque Red Lodge Mountain Resort. I ended up taking about 40 images total, but these are my favorite 10… Hopefully I didn’t flood anyone’s Instagram (@juddsather) or Twitter (@JuddSatherPhoto) feeds too much! 🙂 -Judd

Dan + Heidi: 6.27-28.2014 (Trellis & The Loft at Studio J)

Dan and Heidi know how to party! Lets see… Thursday rehearsal, Friday wedding at Trellis at dusk, Saturday reception at The Loft, Sunday barn party, 4th of July week with family still in town, and last week liver transplants for everyone!! 🙂

These guys were so much fun and were surrounded by so many family and friends including sisters Julie and Janet that we have had the privilege of shooting as well.  We LOVED the motorcycle theme and can’t wait to shoot that post-wedding session with the cycle and you guys – enjoy the images! -Judd, Josh and Dayna

Eric + Amber: 06.21.2014 (The Loft at Studio J)

WOW! Sparklers, fireworks, traffic stops, high water, jazz, green tea mints, candles, and awesome food – it seems like we had a little bit of everything for Amber and Eric’s wedding!

Amber had first emailed us a couple years ago about helping us with a photobooth for a fundraising event that Josh and I were shooting; but it turns out she was asking for Eric who has started his own photography business and wanted to help us out. Fast forward to the heart of the renovation of The Loft at Studio J and Eric was meticulously cleaning EVERY SINGLE one of the chandelier crystals – TWICE. The dude is amazing: pounding out square head nails, editing, retouching, basically doing everything he could to help us through the dust storm of our renovation!! You rock, man.

Amber is a beautiful bride (love the tats!) and I am so pumped that she is the first bride to get the 3-mirror shot in the bride’s room that has been in my head literally for 6 months – love it!! Josh (Eric’s son) had a little too much champagne on an empty stomach so that explains the picture of him sitting on the chair on the back patio. It was so fun shooting with you guys and we love the way you decorated The Loft for your wedding! -Judd, Josh, Taylor, and Dayna

Justin + Nikki: 06.14.2014 (Lakewood Memorial Chapel and Interlachen Country Club)

Sometimes things just work out… Justin and Nikki’s wedding day started out really rainy and we were all like “let’s make the best of this and see how it goes!” We started out a little behind schedule so the shooting turned into a flurry of activity and I’m pretty sure we shot as fast as we ever have! The wedding party were true reflections of Justin and Nikki’s personalities – very chill, classy, and fun-loving. There was tons of laughter as we dodged raindrops, caught a northern, took off shoes in a reflection pool, sang songs in the awesome acoustics of Lakewood Cemetery, took pics in the crypt!! and amazing spiral staircase built in 1910, juggled three colors of umbrellas, and got photobombed by a runner at Lake Harriet! It was fun tracing the steps of their first date at Tinfish as well as some of their favorite spots at Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun.

The toasts yielded more singing and funny props; the only disappointment was that Nikki and Justin didn’t do more yoga in the surreal reflection pool! Nikki holds a special place in the history of Studio J as our VERY FIRST portrait client outside of weddings. A couple years ago we got some epic yoga shots of her on Earth Day (still feel bad about weed wacking on Earth Day) – and these images are up in the studio today if you have seen her “floating” on her yoga mat doing some crazy pose that only double jointed people can imagine achieving!

It was such a pleasure shooting with you guys Saturday! Josh and I had a blast and grabbing these crazy cool images we got with you despite the weather and pace at which we had to shoot was simply amazing. Enjoy!!! -Judd and Josh
