Kurt + Bretta: 03.21.15 (St. Mark’s and The Loft at Studio J)

How can you go wrong with a day that starts with a shot (not a picture) with the bride at Neumann’s?! What an amazingly fun day – “It’s gettin real!” Bretta kept telling me as the day approached.  Bretta walked into our studio about four years ago for some pictures of her son, Todd, and now we have done two weddings in their family including Ray and Sandy.  It is so fun to be there for multiple special occasions with families!  Kurt treats her so well and is so awesome with Todd it was very cool to watch.

Todd was a little confused with the gold wedding dress, but hey, that’s what makes your mom unique!  It was a little chilly getting images outside but we nabbed some awesome ones at Pioneer Park and the ones in front of the tin wall we had to pull some teeth to get that classy black coat off – Todd stayed in the car. 🙂  Kurt and Bretta hired a couple private cars to shuttle people to and from the hotel which was a great idea.  And Marna’s Catering had an amazing presentation of butler pass hors d’oeuvres (another great idea for big weddings and cocktail-style receptions so people don’t have to move around so much in The Loft.)

Jeff Loven, Minnesota’s #1 One Man Band rocked the Loft tonight!  Pretty sure there was some crazy singing and crazy dancing – watch the video!  I also think Bretta’s dad Ray did the splits? Wowzers – fun to be a part of it all (and not get hit by cars for the end of the night shot)! -Judd and Eric

BYOB events at The Loft at Studio J

We asked one of our BYOB Bartenders, David Hackler of Minnesota Mobile Pour, what to buy for your guests at your Loft at Studio J BYOB event (or any event for that matter!)

For every 100 guests, here is his recommendation of what is consumed on average:

Red Wine: 18 bottles, White Wine: 12 bottles, Champagne: 20 bottles.

Beer: 1 keg plus 24 cans on reserve, or 120 bottles

Vodka: 4 bottles, Rum: 4 bottles, Whiskey: 2-3 bottles, Scotch: 1 bottle

Planners estimate one drink per person per hour. (A bottle of wine or Champagne contains four drinks; a liter of spirits, 22.)

For each bottle of spirits, you need three containers of mixers—club soda, pop, tonic, juice, and so on.  Cocktail parties might prompt guests to order martinis, and multi-course sit-downs will necessitate plenty of wine.  Signature drinks add another variable but this is a start!  Also remember to bring your own lemons, limes, and/or oranges for your BYOB event.  You are the best judge of your wedding party so if they drink more beer than wine then adjust accordingly!

Andy + Meg: 03.07.2015 (The Loft at Studio J)

Birds were chirping this morning!  What a day for Megan and Andy’s wedding – the snow was melting and we got to shoot outside – yay!

Megan’s mom, Jean, did an amazing job with all the details, flowers, and decorations – she even made Megan’s clutch purse out of leftover train from her dress.  Megan also had some cool accessories including a sleeved jacket that buttoned up the back and a cape!!!  Some other super fun moments included Bill dancing, the glass spilling out of the bag because Andy is a hard stomper, Megan’s dad seeing her for the first time, and all the college stories during the toasts.

It was so fun celebrating with you guys – you have an amazing group of family and friends! Even if they can’t keep a straight face doing the serious pose. 🙂 – Judd and Josh

The Loft at Studio J is a great place for sports banquets (Monday-Thursday only) – we have partnered with The Green Room in Stillwater for an amazing experience for your banquet!  Both The Loft and The Green Room are doing this a service to schools and a service to the community.  Judd (Loft owner) was a high school math teacher and varsity football/baseball coach for 18 years!

Cost: $10/person to Loft and $10/person to Green Room (separate invoices – 50 person minimum)

– 60″ round tables (8 chairs per table), four 8′ rectangular tables (two for coaches table & awards, two for buffet), others available if needed

Here is a step-by-step approach for your event!

1. Contact Loft staff to book your date ($500 deposit preferred) – info@studiojloft.com, 651-342-1476

2. Three days before event, call The Loft (651-342-1476) and The Green Room (651-528-9669) to confirm final numbers.  Let The Green Room know of any dietary concerns.

3. Email your tax-exempt certificate to The Loft (info@studiojloft.com, to avoid tax as a school not-for-profit organization).

4. Select your drinks, decorations, dispensers (we have a few water pitchers), etc.

5. Show up at 4pm on the date of the banquet, put hazzard lights on in front of The Loft and have multiple people unload and help get everything inside the door and then find parking on Olive Street or the parking lots uphill on Olive.

6. Designate four people to help Loft staff with tables, chairs, and remove garbage for the end of the evening.

7. Tip The Green Room for service if desired – $100 recommended (no tip necessary for Loft employee).

Jessica Frisco - August 7, 2015 - 9:11 PM

Hello Judd and everyone else at The Loft and Studio J-

I am a high school art teacher at East Ridge in Woodbury. I have been considering the idea of having an “off-campus” art show for my Advanced Placement students this coming year.

I am wondering if you would be interested in hosting us? It seems like such an amazing adventure you are embarking on, and as a resident of Stillwater I would love to make use of your services if you are interested. I

I would also be interested in any alternative ideas you may have. I will have 35-40 students enrolled in my course. I considered having them display their single best work for a real evening art exhibit. I am not opposed to partnering with the Green room, as I enjoy their variety of cuisine and suspect the students would as well. However, this is not necessary. We could consider other options. I would imagine artworks will not be larger than 24X30 if two-dimensional and I will probably have a few three dimensional art students as well.

Please let me know your thoughts and if you would be interested in partnering with me to make my students feel special. Perhaps we could consider a deal to have the students create a large scale collaborative piece for The Loft in exchange for part of the fee…?

Thank you so much,

Jessica Frisco

Chris + Kelly: 02.28.2015 (Historic Courthouse and The Loft at Studio J)

Thanks Chris and Kelly for an amazing time on your wedding day. It is always fun to shoot in Stillwater, but you made it even more fun! We shot in The Loft at Studio J, and got to explore a little of the Historic Courthouse where we shot in the jail! They did not have the best taste in wall color in the jail, but maybe that was intended as part of the punishment, ha! It was a little chilly, but blue skies all day. With the help of coordinating mittens we were able to beat the cold and grab a few pics outside. Thanks again Chris and Kelly for a wonderful day, oh and for the drinks at Rafters 🙂

Make sure to check out the slideshow below and enjoy looking through all the fun pics from the day!
