I found my croc soulmate! Joan wore crocs for her wedding shoes – love it!! 🙂 Andy and I did our secret bridal lift to get Joan up in the tree for their signature shot, and Josh added a sweet wood grain overlay to really give the tall tree image a little pop. Trellis is such a cool outdoor ceremony location, and this wedding wins the “Cutest crawling kid” award for easily the last decade… there was also a fun moment where I was chased around by the flower girl who had rebounded nicely from a pre-wedding wipeout!

During creative time, we took a little different route past Teddy Bear Park and found some cool doors and blossoms complete with a photo bomber. We love being photographers in Stillwater, there is literally a cool backdrop every 10 feet in this town. Andy and Joan were so chill – it was so great to have the privilege of capturing your wedding, and we will never forget the awesome boat engagement session! Check out the slideshow for some very cool video moments as well. 🙂 -Judd and Josh

Storyhill Farewell Concert at The Loft at Studio J!

Storyhill is one of my favorite music groups: guitars, tight harms, and history dating back to St. Olaf in the early 90’s.  They did a “hiatus” tour last weekend and kicked it off at The Loft to a sold out crowd of 200 that included good food, drinks, photo booth, and VIP autographed pictures we took that night.  It was just such a blast reconnecting with deep friendships.  Here are a few favorite images and a video of the show we were honored to capture; I was even turning off the A/C during the quiet parts with my phone! Connor Garvey was an amazing opener as well fresh off a straight drive from Indiana – loved the “Irish” song! 🙂 Here is a link to more images on Facebook.- Judd

Austin + Kelsey: 04.11.2015 (Trinity Lutheran and The Loft at Studio J)

OK so where do we start??? This was such an amazing day… we were able to walk around Stillwater shooting for the first time in TOO LONG and Austin and Kelsey and their wedding party were such a blast to hang with today!  We started out at The Lift Bridge Loft for getting ready images and hatched the “Abbey Road with Cherie” shot that happened after much planning and scheming.  We got the shot but left much of the décor behind because of it – ha – but so worth it!!

Josh captured a few really cool images of the rings before the piano became artwork on the wall the next week, and I also love the dress hanging images we took on the cool textured limestone with a sunshine pop on the wall. Kelsey’s long veil was a bit of a pain but dang, did it photograph well!!! Some of the images down by the water with the veil are among our favorites ever. I also loved the look of the head table chairs against the rustic brick background in The Loft.

Lisa’s Catering was rocking some really awesome apps including tiny baby carrots, and a little waffle/chicken/syrup conglomeration that was a taste bud explosion. There were two major highlights of the evening: the first was the story during the toasts of Kara, Hannah, and Kelsey taking an illegal and sisterly drive in the family car. The second highlight will simply be called “The infamous DJ swap of 2015” and you’ll just have to be in the inner circle to know that one… the father/daughter dance seemed even more epic than it already was because the dance happened so much later in the night! My phone now has a new Pandora station called “wedding dance party” and it will always be on my phone! It was such an honor spending time with your family and friends Kelsey and Austin! -Judd and Josh and the entire Loft Crew

Kurt + Bretta: 03.21.15 (St. Mark’s and The Loft at Studio J)

How can you go wrong with a day that starts with a shot (not a picture) with the bride at Neumann’s?! What an amazingly fun day – “It’s gettin real!” Bretta kept telling me as the day approached.  Bretta walked into our studio about four years ago for some pictures of her son, Todd, and now we have done two weddings in their family including Ray and Sandy.  It is so fun to be there for multiple special occasions with families!  Kurt treats her so well and is so awesome with Todd it was very cool to watch.

Todd was a little confused with the gold wedding dress, but hey, that’s what makes your mom unique!  It was a little chilly getting images outside but we nabbed some awesome ones at Pioneer Park and the ones in front of the tin wall we had to pull some teeth to get that classy black coat off – Todd stayed in the car. 🙂  Kurt and Bretta hired a couple private cars to shuttle people to and from the hotel which was a great idea.  And Marna’s Catering had an amazing presentation of butler pass hors d’oeuvres (another great idea for big weddings and cocktail-style receptions so people don’t have to move around so much in The Loft.)

Jeff Loven, Minnesota’s #1 One Man Band rocked the Loft tonight!  Pretty sure there was some crazy singing and crazy dancing – watch the video!  I also think Bretta’s dad Ray did the splits? Wowzers – fun to be a part of it all (and not get hit by cars for the end of the night shot)! -Judd and Eric

BYOB events at The Loft at Studio J

We asked one of our BYOB Bartenders, David Hackler of Minnesota Mobile Pour, what to buy for your guests at your Loft at Studio J BYOB event (or any event for that matter!)

For every 100 guests, here is his recommendation of what is consumed on average:

Red Wine: 18 bottles, White Wine: 12 bottles, Champagne: 20 bottles.

Beer: 1 keg plus 24 cans on reserve, or 120 bottles

Vodka: 4 bottles, Rum: 4 bottles, Whiskey: 2-3 bottles, Scotch: 1 bottle

Planners estimate one drink per person per hour. (A bottle of wine or Champagne contains four drinks; a liter of spirits, 22.)

For each bottle of spirits, you need three containers of mixers—club soda, pop, tonic, juice, and so on.  Cocktail parties might prompt guests to order martinis, and multi-course sit-downs will necessitate plenty of wine.  Signature drinks add another variable but this is a start!  Also remember to bring your own lemons, limes, and/or oranges for your BYOB event.  You are the best judge of your wedding party so if they drink more beer than wine then adjust accordingly!

Andy + Meg: 03.07.2015 (The Loft at Studio J)

Birds were chirping this morning!  What a day for Megan and Andy’s wedding – the snow was melting and we got to shoot outside – yay!

Megan’s mom, Jean, did an amazing job with all the details, flowers, and decorations – she even made Megan’s clutch purse out of leftover train from her dress.  Megan also had some cool accessories including a sleeved jacket that buttoned up the back and a cape!!!  Some other super fun moments included Bill dancing, the glass spilling out of the bag because Andy is a hard stomper, Megan’s dad seeing her for the first time, and all the college stories during the toasts.

It was so fun celebrating with you guys – you have an amazing group of family and friends! Even if they can’t keep a straight face doing the serious pose. 🙂 – Judd and Josh
