Man, was it pouring this morning and we bought four golf umbrellas to get some outside shots just in case. But we didn’t even need them – it didn’t rain hardly at all the rest of the day! We had a fun shoot at Phalen park first with really interesting sky, amphitheater, and puddle shots. I love that old shed behind Gustavus Adolphus and the shot of Sarah’s dad and her behind the glass door just before coming down the aisle. Got the Landmark Center to look like a spooky old castle as well. Sarah’s grandparents were celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary – the technology has really changed in photography since then (in the way that their picture could be printed and eaten right on the cake itself!) I love the shoe shot Amanda got with the flower girls dancing in the background, and of course the choreographed wedding party dance (see Thriller and too-small cue card shots). Who was the M.C. Hammer guy? Put a pair of zubaz on him and he was in the 80’s!

I love that Caleb said a couple times “I don’t even like pictures and this is fun!” Maybe that’s because we set a record with both families and bridal party formal portraits in 19 minutes total due to a little time crunch. This was a very fun, smiley wedding – both Caleb and Sarah have just knockout smiles and are obviously so comfortable with each other – have a great honeymoon, guys!

The weather threatened Devin and Tugce’s wedding day in the morning, but ended up being a great day. We started at the gorgeous Incarnation Catholic Church, designed by the same architect who built the Cathedral in St. Paul and the Basilica in Minneapolis. The church provided a beautiful background to a special wedding celebrating culture, friendship and the love between Devin and Tugce. After the wedding, we took off for the rose garden after sipping on some delicious blue label Johnny Walker! Groomsman Charlie didn’t get the cheap stuff for his buddy Devin 🙂 Check out the classic “jumping photo” as Charlie stayed stationary due to his broken foot, hilarious! The reception was beautiful and we enjoyed some traditional Turkish celebrations including shots and a hookah bar! Congrats to Devin and Tugce, enjoy your honeymoon!

Varsity Theater Shoot

Felt last night like I stepped into a time machine and went back to my 20’s going to a concert at the Varsity Theater on a Sunday night! I was doing a shoot for the Brian David Band and ended up staying all night for Arc Flash Hazard and Melanie Anderson’s CD release party. That girl has some chops! The Varsity has such great lighting and a fog machine in the ceiling to capture some great backgrounds behind the musicians. The final image is Melanie’s dad, Mark, playing the keys while she was signing – he helped her produce the CD. A really fun night capped by me running into the drummer from my band 10 years ago, and then I felt old again, and the dream was gone… 🙂

This was one of the most unique wedding receptions I have ever experienced. From the spider web to the giant mosquito, floating fake boat to the huge bear in the creepy cave. The Minnesota Zoo along with some beautiful sunshine made for some great photos! The wedding party was hilarious and we especially enjoyed the “assertive” bridesmaids helping us with the “creative juices” 🙂 Check out Ryan feeding his little birdie groomsmen on the giant birds nest, classic. We were the first bridal party to shoot in the new kids area at the Minnesota Zoo and we took advantage! Congratulations to Ryan and Kelsey and check back to see the final photos in about a week!

If you’re thinking July 2010 will be too hot for your wedding, remember Brock and Elaine’s 55 degree, overcast (great skies!), kind of rainy, and goosebumps on the bridesmaids wedding day. It felt like October which was a nice change of pace for the groomsmen in tuxes! Elaine and Brock are an amazing couple – Elaine was doing Brock’s hair before the wedding (a first for us). They had to memorize their vows for the ceremony and Brock “changed” them a little and Elaine totally rubbed it in his face during her part with non-verbals and an amazingly composed dramatic pause complete with nod to the crowd – hilarious. Couldn’t pass up the pitchfork shot in front of the shed that Elaine’s dad built and some of my other favorites are below: I love that old truck we found on the way up to buffalo hide park just across the river on 94 in Wisconsin. A 6-pack of Buffalo Wild Wings closed out this fun day! -Judd and Josh
