Youth hockey in Minnesota

It is so tempting to curl up on the couch with a lap blanket and watch some TV in mid-January. But, I have a kid who loves to play hockey, specifically goalie. So I brought the camera out to my first ever mite hockey game and it was kind of fun. 🙂 There is something very peaceful about being outside in the winter (dressed properly) and just hearing the sounds of sticks and skates. I think I might be in for a couple decades of being a hockey dad…

And to be fair, here is son #2 playing basketball!

Paul + Emilie = Engaged

Our first engagement shoot of 2010! It occurred on Red Lodge Mountain (Montana) on Friday. Paul and Emilie have a ton of fun together and they were totally up for some fun shots on the mountain and downtown Red Lodge even after a full day of skiing. As I was knee-deep in snow, I look at my camera flash and noticed it had some sand on it still from Grant and Michelle’s “Trash-the-Dress” session in Playa Del Carmen. Thought that it was pretty cool that my last two engagement sessions were in Mexico and Montana, at sea level and 9000 feet in elevation.
Paul was fresh of winning the prestigious “Largest Beard in Montana” award, so we thought we’d showcase it is bit. Emilie surprisingly managed to find her way through the beard to find his lips for a kiss or too. After a beer at the Bierstube at the base of the mountain, we were trying to get a shot of the post-dusk sky and maybe stars, but this pickup truck wouldn’t turn his lights off for the longest time. Emilie noticed the massive shadows the truck’s headlights cast on the opposite mountain so we grabbed some abstract images and didn’t want the guy to leave, but he did after only two images (below – I’m the geek giving the double thumbs up on the right.) There is a great little candy shop downtown as well, thus the shot of the taffy. Paul and Emilie live in Colorado, are getting married in Illinois, and did this session in Montana: they’re all over the map – can’t wait for the Friday the 13th wedding this summer guys! -Judd
